The Ebay Copy Writing Test

Recently I undertook a test using the action site Ebay. I set out to prove the importance of copy writing to a business.

2 identical items were sold, 1 which had very little description and effort put into the text and the other was a detailed description of the product with a relevant and detailed headline. One sold for £ 1.89 and the other sold for £8.50! Exactly the same outfit in exactly the same condition, but one sold for considerably more than the other.

I know there are a lot of variables on ebay for why things sell, and I am the first to point out other factors that could be involved….this does show the importance of thinking about how and what you communicate to others. It is obvious that if you describe a product to its best advantage you are likely to get more interest but the difference in end price shows the massive impact it can have!
